North of the island, in the city of Saint-Pierre, is one of the finest distilleries in Martinique: The Depaz Distillery. Rent a car to go visit and discover this area.
In Martinique, many distilleries are open to the public. Located north, at the foot of Mount Pelée, Depaz distillery is undoubtedly one of the finest rum distilleries. With a view of the volcano and the Saint-Pierre bay, this distillery offers a very well organized tour.
After going through the reception, we follow the track that takes us through the steps of the manufacturing process: from the weighing of the cane to the tanks, through the factory and its steam engines, the turbine, the aging cellars… etc. The tour also brings us to the view of the garden, the waterfall, the traditional facilities, the Steam Museum and Depaz Castle (the private house of the distillery).
To complete the visit, there is nothing better than tasting (for free) Depaz’s rum and going through the rum shop. The restaurant, set in a beats mill, also introduces the visitors to typical Creole dishes.

Practical informations
Open from monday to friday from 10am to 5pm, and on saturday from 9am to 4pm, the Depaz Distillery offers a free tour. It is easily accessible by car, by the road N2 or the road D10, from Saint-Pierre city.
